2️⃣ Still using your pets name or football team as a password? Time for something stronger
Making Cyber Security Simple tip 2️⃣
Tip 2️⃣ Use LSD Passwords (Long Strong and Different)
Humans are not great at picking passwords. We tend to go for short passwords that are memorable to us.
We often pick a family members name, a pet, or a sports team we follow, and then add a number on the end (because we are told that’s more secure). And we then use that password everywhere.
Passwords need to be three things.
🔵 Long - passwords should be long to make it harder to crack in a brute force attack
🔵 Strong - passwords need to be complex, as this also makes them harder to crack. I like using three unusual and unconnected words, strung together with some special characters.
🔵 Different - every password should be different. Because then, following a password breach, we only have to change that one password, not all of our passwords.
Let’s create a long and strong password together.
🔒 Pick three unusual and unconnected words; negate lunar ability
🔒 Now pick a special character; <
🔒 String the three words together with that special character, add in a number, and capitalise a few of the letters; nEgate6<luNar<aBility
If we run that through a password strength checker, we will find that it would take centuries to crack that particular password.
However, if we used our pets name, and the year we got them, or our favourite football team and a number, those passwords can be cracked in no time at all.
Or in the case below, just one second.
But if you start using Long, Strong, and Different passwords, you will be much more cyber secure.
I call them LSD passwords.
